Abstract

ABSTRACT 

Objectives: To outline the profile of adolescents with repeated pregnancies, list the factors associated with their recurrence and calculate the prevalence of this repetition. Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional observational study, which included pregnant women aged 10 to 19 years with one or more previous pregnancies at the time of discovery of the current pregnancy. Parturients at the maternity hospital of the Public Hospital Complex, from August 1, 2020 to March 31, 2022. They agreed to participate in the study by TALE or TCLE. Data collection was conducted in a virtual environment, internet tools (Google forms) and telephones (audio call and use of applications), contacts obtained from the hospital electronic record. Descriptive and inferential analyzes were performed, opting for Pearson's chi-square test and Mann-Whitney's non-parametric test, adopting a significance of 5%. Results: There were 6320 deliveries during the study period, 580 were pregnant adolescents and 113 of these adolescents were multiparous. Adolescents accounted for 9.18% of all deliveries at the service, an average lower than the national average. And a prevalence of 19.5% (113 out of 580) of multiparous adolescents. The 113 multiparous adolescents were selected for the initial sample, but only 31 were part of the final sample and were interviewed by application, making it possible to assess the sociodemographic profile, observe the trend of a higher rate of planning of pregnancies associated with the stable union of couples (pregnancies unplanned were 21 without a stable union and 10 with a stable union) the value of p= 0.063 and the existence of the protection factor, schooling associated with greater use of contraceptives. Among pregnant women with incomplete primary and secondary education, 12.5% ​​used contraception prior to pregnancy, while 42.9% of adolescents with complete secondary education, the value of p=0.074. Conclusion: A profile of social vulnerability was observed among the interviewees, aggravated by the abandonment of formal education, low income and lack of information about contraceptive methods. Factors that are directly related to the recurrence of pregnancies are low schooling and lack of stable union. The prevalence of adolescents with recurrent pregnancies was 19.5% among all pregnant adolescents in the study.
